For travelers arriving in Wheeling from I-70 East please take this detour.

  • About a mile after you pass the exit for St Clairsville Ohio take I 470.
  • You will take the first exit (1) after you go over the bridge (Ohio River) and follow signs for Rt 250.
  • Follow this divided highway to I 70 East and then exit immediately on exit 2a towards Oglebay.
  • Once off the Oglebay exit for both West & Eastbound travelers they will make a right on Route 40 West and then a left onto Route 88 North.
  • The intersection of Rt 40 & Rt 88 has a Sheetz, church, funeral home and a Tim Horton’s on each of the corners.

• Most Rev. Michael J. Bransfield, Bishop, Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, WV
Bishop Bransfield became the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling Charleston in 2005. He is a trustee of The Papal Foundation and serves on the Board of Trustees of The Catholic University of America, the Catholic Distance University, the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio; and as a member of the Board of Regents for St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pa. Bishop Bransfield is also the liaison for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to the National Council of Catholic Women.

• Most Rev. Bernard Schmitt, Bishop Emeritus, Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, WV
Bishop Schmitt was installed as Seventh Diocesan Bishop in 1989. Family has been an important aspect of Bishop Schmitt's ministry. He was appointed a member of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Marriage and Family and issued "The Treasure of Family," a pastoral letter on family life. As Bishop Emeritus, he is a popular speaker and remains active in Diocesan life.

• Most Rev. Edwin F. O'Brien,
In summer 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him the 15th archbishop for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the nation’s oldest Catholic diocese, founded in 1789. Prior to that he served as the spiritual leader of Catholics serving in America’s armed forces. From September 2005 to June 2006, he was the Holy See’s coordinator for the Papal Visitation of Seminaries and Houses of Priestly Formation.

• Helen Alvaré, Associate Professor of Law at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
Since 1987 Ms. Alvaré has worked at the National Conference on Catholic Bishops, first in the Office of General Counsel and later as the director of information and planning for the bishops’ pro-life office. She has testified on behalf of the bishops before federal congressional committees and lobbied members of Congress on federal legislation concerning abortion, health care and welfare reform.
